Marine Rescue completes seven rescues in one month at Evans Head

It was the quietest January since 2020, but Marine Rescue NSW volunteers were still busy with an average of 21 rescues a day in the past month.

This is rescues across the state. Closer to home, there were 45 search & rescue missions including 21 emergency responses with 146 people safely returned to shore across seven Northern Rivers units – Point Danger, Brunswick, Cape Byron, Ballina, Evans Head, Iluka Yamba & Wooli.

The locations with the most demand were Point Danger with 18 rescues, Ballina with 10, and seven rescues out of Evans Head.

Last year was one of the busiest years for Marine Rescue NSW with 353 search and rescue missions including 176 emergency responses with 718 people safely returned to shore across all Northern Rivers units.

Marine Rescue NSW radio operators across the state managed 25,973 radio calls in January this year and kept watch over 35,083 people on board Logged On vessels.

Commissioner Alex Barrell said, “It only takes a minute to Log On and protect a lifetime using the free Marine Rescue NSW app or VHF Channel 16.”
