Where is the best spot for a men’s shed in Evans Head?
Richmond Valley Council seeks community feedback on a proposed alternative site for the Evans Head Men’s Shed.
The council previously explored putting the shed at the Evans Head Works Depot, but because of accessibility to this site, an alternative site at the corner of Memorial Airport Drive and Canberra Road is being considered.
Members of the Evans Head Men’s Shed support this site. It has minimal impact on surrounding land use, improved accessibility and the potential for future expansion.
Men’s Shed president Greg Davies said they had been at the Evans Head Memorial Aerodrome site for 14 years.
In May 2020, the council announced the sale of the aerodrome to Evans Head Airpark.
An increase in rent by developers has made it more difficult for the men’s shed to expand.
Being on private land means they can’t get grants for the shed, Mr Davies said.
The new proposed location is an empty block owned by the council that the men’s shed will put a shed on, he said.
It was also an easy location for people to walk to.
Community members can share their views on the proposed location at Memorial Airport Drive and Canberra Road by July 10.
