An Evans Head local has won $1million in the Lotto.

Evans Head Newsagency owners Jasmine and Craig McKenna got an alert from Lotto at 6am today, Thursday, March 9, to say they had sold the winning ticket.

Jasmine and Craig have run the newsagency for nine years and had a $100,000 win in the early days.

But nothing like this first division million-dollar win.

“It’s created a bit of hype,” Jasmine said.

The winner is a regular customer to the newsagency and has asked to remain anonymous.

When the winning man checked his ticket this morning, he started to cry when he realised he had won.

“My mum started to cry across the table when we were checking off the winning numbers from last night’s draw,” he told Lotto.

“We were affected by the floods in our region precisely one year ago. It’s been tough.”

Jasmine said she was happy the winning ticket went to someone who really needed it.

“It has already created such a buzz with our customers and has certainly increased the curiosity as to who the fortunate winner is.”
