The new playpark at Coronation Park in Casino was officially opened on Friday, September 2 and already some of the equipment has been vandalised.

Richmond Valley Council posted the graffiti tags on the council Facebook page in the hope of getting some information about the vandals.

Mayor Robert Mustow said since the Lennox St park was redone, it had been popular with families.

“The park reminds me of a quote from the movie Field of Dreams – ‘If you build it, they will come’,” Mr Mustow said.

The park was designed to complement the new war memorial and walkway at the Casino Drill Hall precinct.

Council project manager Lani Hancock said the poppy themed design for a park was unique in Australia.

“I cannot understand what joy or satisfaction anyone could gain out of this senseless act,” Mr Mustow said.

Anyone with information about the Coronation Park vandalism is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit crimestoppers.com.au
