NRLX – no news is not good news – no decision on who will lease saleyards

It’s been quite a wait to see who will lease the Northern Rivers Livestock Exchange in Casino.

The NRLX has been closed for almost six months after negotiations between Richmond Valley Council and agents came to a standstill in June.

The council meeting tonight, Monday December 11 did not provide a decision on who will run the saleyards.

The council received a tender assessment with recommendations from JLL Agribusiness.

In the closed part of the meeting where the public was not present, councillors discussed the tenders.

Councillors declined all submissions because they either did not conform or did not fully address the criteria.

Council general manager Vaughan Macdonald will negotiate directly with the preferred entities to lease the NRLX.

The preferred entities were not named and no timeframe was given.

The outcome of the negotiations will be reported to council for a decision.
