During the 2022 flood disaster, one of the issues that quickly became apparent was  the need for people to get medication.
During evacuations and tinnie rescues, prescriptions were forgotten in the rush to escape floodwaters.
Then, when people tried to get more medication, chemists said they were unable to give them medication without a prescription. It caused a lot of drama in evacuation centres when people reacted to a lack of medication.
This time, the State Government has said that people who require essential medicines, including for diabetes, heart and asthma medicines, can access a limited supply without a prescription at pharmacies.
NSW Health has issued an authority under the Poisons and Therapeutic Goods legislation that allows pharmacists to supply prescription medicines to people without a prescription who are affected by the cyclone.
NSW Health has also brought extra medicines into the affected region.
People are encouraged to phone ahead, if possible, and try alternate pharmacies if their usual pharmacy is closed.
