A photographic competition to Capture the Spirit of Beef Week has had some stunning images submitted.
The competition was run by PRD Northern Rivers and they have announced the place getters.
“We were blown away by the incredible rural photos you shared that truly captured the essence of our community,” PRD judges said.
The winner is Kate Cairnduff from Lismore who won $100 to spend at her favourite Richmond Valley Butcher.
Her beautiful photo of a cow, perfectly lit up with the golden hues of a Richmond Valley sunset, was a favourite of all the judges.
Kate said it was “an absolute thrill” to win.
“My beautiful girl has pulled at the heart of the judges just as she did with me,” she said.
“She is one of my favourite images I’ve taken and she’s taken out the judges’ choice for Beef Week.”
The photo was taken just outside of Casino at dusk
“I saw her on the side of the road and the farmer had just left her food,” Kate said.
“I just happened to see her just as she turned her head and looked up at the sunset through her ‘earlights.’ It was a moment to be captured.”
Kate has been doing photography for 10 months and is about to head to Africa for a safari where she hopes to capture more magical moments like her cow shot.
Second Prize of a $100 Fitzmax voucher goes to Carmel Gledhill for her photo capturing the spirit of farm life.
“Life on the farm starts with early mornings with your best mate and best farm worker.
“This image shows the energy, anticipation, excitement, and discipline bred into every trained working dog doing what they love,” the judges said.
Third prize goes to Jason Ainsworth for his photo of a young bloke and his dog taking a breather at the yards.
Jason wins a prize pack filled with goodies from local businesses including J & J Rodeo, Mongogarie Olives, and more.
The competition was so successful with more than 100 entries that PRD Northern Rivers plans to run it again next year.
For now though, check out the events on for the rest of Beef Week 2024.
