Police were patrolling Centre Street, Casino at 6.45pm yesterday, Saturday, October 5 when they spotted a man wanted for alleged domestic violence offences driving a Kia sedan.
Police tried to stop the Kia but when they failed to do so, they chased the car but the pursuit was halted because of safety reasons.
A short time later, the Kia was found on Churchill Crescent.
The man who had been driving the Kia, approached officers armed with a knife.
Police officers deployed a taser and the man was arrested.
The man, 35, was taken to hospital for assessment where he remains under police guard.
On release from hospital yesterday, Sunday, October 6, he was taken to Lismore Police Station and charged with the following offences:
– contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (domestic)
– stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm (domestic)
– hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty – two counts
– use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention – two counts
– escape police custody
– police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously
– intimidate police officer in execution of duty
– custody of knife in public place
He was refused bail to appear before Lismore Local Court today (Monday 7 October 2024), where he was formally refused bail to appear before Grafton Local Court tomorrow, Tuesday, October 8.
