A border collie from Queensland came to Casino and took home $12,500 prize money from the Australian Working Cattle Dog Championships.
Eva, the collie and owner Luke Aisthorpe competed against 179 other dogs at the five-day dog trials at Casino Showground and they took home $1500 for the Sire Shoot Out Championship and $11,000 from winning the Australian Open Championship.
One of the event organisers Jessica Gall said the total prize pool of $26,000 was the largest for a dog trial anywhere in Australia.
Co-organiser Ben Gould thanked Ms Gall for all her work behind the scenes.
“She’s the glue that holds everything together, and this event simply would not run without her,” Mr Gould said.
He also thanked Tennielle ‘Farrell’ Gould and Dean Smith for their support.
The large prize pool and successful event puts Casino on the working dog trials map.
Sponsors of the event included Richmond Valley Council, 4CYTE, Casino Engineering and Industrial Supplies, Casino RSM Club, Casino Veterinary Clinic, Northern Rivers Veterinary Service Casino and J & J Rodeo.
“This year’s Australian Championships was a shining example of community spirit, teamwork, and passion for our sport,” Mr Gould said.
