Does a pumpkin or watermelon inspire you to get creative?
IndyNR.com has teamed up with Kyogle’s Giant Pumpkin and Watermelon Festival to host a short story competition for school age children.
Festival organiser Rob Cullen can liaise with schools to pick up stories if necessary.
“As a teacher, I always like to get the children involved,” Rob said.
“I love kids’ imaginations.”
Rob wants to encourage children to write — and here’s their chance.
Entries close December 20 and the winners will be announced at the festival on Saturday, January 17.
How do you enter?
You can enter individually or through your school. There are two categories — Primary and High School.
The entry form is here plus more information about the comp including a verification form. Use of AI is not accepted in this competition.
Most importantly, the judges will be looking for an original voice.

A group of writers that meet regularly in Casino will be judging the stories.
There are six prizes — three for each category. They are:
1st prize $150
2nd prize $100
3rd prize $50
The six selected stories will be published on indynr.com and in the Kyogle Inky.
