Rayne Aylward charged with murder, bail refused

Rayne Aylward, 18, has been charged with the murder of a 17-year-old boy in Casino on Saturday, June 25.

Mr Aylward from Casino did not apply for bail, and it was formally refused when he appeared at Lismore Local Court today, Monday, June 27.

Police allege Mr Aylward visited the home of the 17-year-old in the early hours of Saturday morning and stabbed him in the neck.

The boy died at the scene.

The boy’s parents were home when the alleged attack happened.

A crime scene was established at the home where officers searched the surrounding area with the dog unit.

It is the second fatal alleged stabbing of a teenager in Casino in less than a month. At the KFC carpark brawl on May 29 Lachlan Andrews was stabbed and died.

Police believe the two stabbings are linked.

Mr Aylward is due to appear before court for a mention on August 24.

Mr Aylward was at a home in Casino at 10:40am on Sunday, June 26 when he was arrested by detectives.

He was taken to Casino Police Station where he was charged with murder.

A crime scene was established at the man’s home after his arrest and continues to be forensically examined.

Investigations by strike force detectives continue.
