Sarah Tischhauser has accidentally grown more than 140 pumpkins at her home at Jacksons Flat near Tabulam.
She didn’t mean to grow quite so many but the secret ingredient from her neighbours made for an abundant crop.
“We’re next to a pig farm and there is an excess of pig manure,” Sarah said.
“I moved the compost here to grow things.”
Sarah threw the seeds from a store-bought pumpkin into the compost and stopped mowing where the pumpkins were growing.
“I anticipated 40–50 pumpkins,” she said.
Now she has pumpkins everywhere – on the back veranda, in the spare room and more still growing in the paddock.
She’s made everything pumpkin – muffins, soup, wraps, tortillas and more.
What else is there to do with so many pumpkins than throw a Pumpkin Party?
Sarah has decided to share her recipes and storage information about pumpkins at a Pumpkin Party at Tabulam Oval this Sunday.
Everyone is invited. The food will be free and Sarah even has a Spotify playlist of pumpkin songs.
“I just need to get rid of the pumpkins,” Sarah said.
“For them to rot would be sad.”
Join the Pumpkin Party at Tabulam Oval, 10am-noon this Sunday, July 28 and help Sarah eat all those pumpkins.
