Steady as she goes on cow and bull prices

Agents yarded 1088 head at the Northern Rivers Livestock Exchange regular prime sale on Wednesday, January 18.

The yarding consisted of a good supply of young cattle along with a fair penning of cows.

Vealers and weaners made up the majority of the young cattle along with several pens of yearlings.

Quality was mixed with several runs of well finished steers and heifers, along with some plain conditioned calves and there were fewer light weight vealers offered.

Cow prices held firm on last week averaging 261c/kg and reaching a top of 306c/kg.

Lighter heifer prices were stronger with those up to 250kg averaging 410c/kg and topping at 518c/kg. Heavier heifers over 250kg were easier averaging 342c/kg and reaching a top of 436c/kg.

Bull prices remained steady with 24 head sold averaging 260c/kg and 625kg.

Lighter steer prices increased with stock up to 250kg averaging 482c/kg and reaching a top of 576c/kg.

Heavier steers over 250kg were slightly down averaging 410c/kg and topping at 540c/kg. A small number of bullocks sold on the day averaged 321c/kg and reached a top of 348c/kg.

Vealer prices were softer averaging 403c/kg and 218kg and reaching a top of 568c/kg.

Ray White Rural held a store sale at the NRLX on Friday, January 20 with 881 head going under the hammer.

Steers topped their category at 580c/kg and averaged 469c/kg and 241kg and heifers reached a top of 492c/kg and averaged 400c/kg and 243kg.

Cows reached a top of $2800 and cows & calves topped at $3560.

T&W McCormack and Ramsey & Bulmer have a store sale this Friday, January 27 with 1500 head expected.

This Saturday, January 28 is the annual Hannigan Family Breeder sale held at the NRLX for the first time. With 700 quality cows & calves, PTIC heifers and unjoined heifers going under the hammer.
