Summerland Way between Casino and Grafton at Dilkoon is open after being closed most of today, Tuesday, August 15 because of a fire.

The fire had been burning on both sides of Summerland Way and has burnt 877ha since it was reported on Saturday, August 12.

An RFS spokesman said the view from the helicopter at 3pm today showed that the fire was “pretty quiet” and “almost contained”.

Last night firefighters were backburning along Dilkoon Rd, north of Grafton.

There were no properties under threat and favourable weather conditions are expected to help firefighters continue to control this fire today and tomorrow.

Across the region fires crews have been busy.

At Muli Muli in Kyogle LGA, 210ha burned. A fire at Larnook burnt 10ha.

Ewingar in Clarence Valley had 193ha area burnt and a fire at Neileys Lagoon at Bungawalbin is under control.
