For three years, the Bentley Art Prize couldn’t go ahead because of covid.
As if to make up for that, this year’s BAP already has 700 entries.
Organiser Helen Trustum is thrilled the Bentley Hall walls will be covered in artworks again.
The BAP was started in 1985.
“The Bentley Hall had its 50th birthday and we decided to have a little art show,” Helen said.
“There were 70 entries.”
Thirty-six years later, there are 700 entries, some of them from as far away as the Gold Coast.
“The entries are arriving at the house already,” Helen said.
At 78, Helen is ready to hand the BAP to new organisers in future years. There are some young women interested in taking over the running of the popular art prize., she said.
See the artworks and photography at Bentley Public Hall on August 4–6.
