Casino’s Katherine Golchert has crocheted a giant Mario and a large teapot. The teapot was exhibited in New York.
Never one to shy away from a challenge, Katherine has decided to go even bigger and plans to yarn bomb a truck for the Casino Truck Show on August 2.
“I thought about doing something wild and crazy,” Katherine said.
“What is Casino known for? Beef and trucks. It’d be fun to yarn bomb a truck.”
So she is – and it’s going to take a lot of granny squares – about 1500 of them.
She’s not doing it alone. She has 23 crafty people crocheting the squares.
Some are from the Northern Rivers Crafternoon that meets monthly at McKees Hall and some are from Caffeinated Crafters in Brisbane.
On Friday, August 1, Katherine will be up high on a cherry picker laying the colourful yarn over the Western Star truck donated for the art installation by Marika and Jason Gava.
The truck will be parked outside the Cassino Gallery on Barker Street.
It’s a first for Casino and a first for Katherine.
“You don’t know if you don’t try,” she said.
The yarn bombed truck will be on view for one day only, Saturday, August 2 while the truck show is on.
“I’ve been working on this since before Christmas,” Katherine said.
