Three arrests and no bail ‘over guns, cannon and cannabis’

Police simultaneously searched two properties – at Stockyard Creek and Woodenbong – yesterday, Tuesday, January 17 at 9.30am.

At a property on Lindsay St, Woodenbong, police say they found and seized a firearm, ammunition and 442g of cannabis leaf.

At a property on Stockyard Creek Rd, Stockyard Creek, police say they seized five firearms, 37g of cannabis, and 14 cannabis plants.

The Woodenbong and Stockyard Creek property owners — a 61 year old man and a 59 year old woman were arrested at Stockyard Creek and taken to Grafton Police Station.

The man was charged with three counts of possessing an unauthorised firearm, possessing ammunition without a licence, two counts of possessing a prohibited drug and cultivating prohibited plant.

The woman faced similar charges.

Each was refused bail in Grafton Local Court today, Wednesday, January 18.

After searching the Stockyard Creek property, investigators made inquiries at a neighbouring property where they saw cannabis plants growing.

A crime scene was declared and police searched the property.

They say they found four firearms, ammunition, 223 cannabis plants, 350g of cannabis leaf, a small cannon and a range of allegedly stolen cars and other items including a caravan and a tractor.

A 49 year old man was arrested at the property and taken to Grafton Police Station where he was charged with 19 offences including possessing unregistered firearms, four counts of not keep firearms safely, possessing ammunition without holding a licence, supplying a prohibited drug, cultivating cannabis, three counts of goods suspected stolen on the premises and receiving property – theft (serious indictable offence greater than $5000).

The man was refused bail.
