Total fire ban means no open fires, no welding and all permits suspended

The Fire Danger Rating for Monday, October 16 is EXTREME.

There is a total fire ban in the Clarence Valley, Richmond Valley, Kyogle LGAs and surrounding areas.

These are potentially dangerous conditions, the NSW RFS said.

No fires are to be lit and all fire permits are suspended. There should be no welding or grinding. Penalties apply for breaking the rules.

This is effective from midnight tonight.

Tomorrow,  Monday,  October 16 is expected to be warm to hot and dry with fresh and gusty west to north-westerly winds.

Later in the day there could be a cooler, gusty south to south-westerly change extending from the west and south during the day.
