St Mary’s Primary School principal John O’Brien was having as much fun as the students at a school assembly today, Friday, August 2.

The whole school assembly was to welcome the truckers who are here for the Casino Truck Show.

Famous trucker Glenn ‘Yogi’ Kendall was known to the children because of the show Outback Truckers.

Yogi is from Western Australia and he is usually trucking farm equipment around Australia.

Today he was celebrating the trucking industry.

Yogi takes the hill on the obstacle course.

He introduced CJ who drove her truck 4000km to be in the Casino Truck Show Parade at 10am tomorrow, Saturday, August 3.

What do you love about truck driving? Mr O’Brien asked CJ.

”I used to work in a corporate office,” CJ said.

”I was so jealous of the trucks going by I quit my job.

”I love truck driving because every day is different. I drove for five days to be here.”

The children cheered. Many had trucker caps on.

They kept cheering when five year old Hudson Webber raced Yogi on the school’s obstacle course for best time.

Hudson finishes the obstacle course in the fastest time.

Hudson easily won on his home turf.

Yogi was worried about getting stuck in the tube slide.

Trucker of the Year Joshua Ulbrich from Bendigo is in Casino for the first time with his Kenworth 909.

You won’t miss him because his truck is bright pink in support of breast cancer awareness.

”I’ve been driving for 22 years,” he said.

He works for Ross Transport.

”You have a lot of time to be with yourself when driving,” Mr Ulbrich said.

Everyone loves the trucks, he said.

”They’re big, they’re shiny and they have a loud air horn.”

Craig Forsyth from Evans Head was at the school with a massive truck and a 13 metre trailer called Truckin’ Life.

Students could go inside the trailer and learn more about the industry.

Mr Forsyth said they had only purchased the educational trailer last Sunday and the visit to St Mary’s School was their first school visit.

They plan to visit many more with his team of six people.

”We’ll be on the road 40 weeks of the year,” Mr Forsyth said.

Inside the trailer, visitors can use virtual reality googles to simulate driving a truck.

It was an exciting day and there’s only one more sleep before the Casino Truck Show has 600 trucks come into the CBD.
