UPDATE: Only 13 ADF personnel injured, trucks rolled but did not collide at Tregeagle

As the investigation into the crash at Tregeagle continues, the two army trucks involved did not collide and fewer ADF personnel were injured than originally reported.

Each army truck had a driver and 15 passengers. and they were travelling on Tregeagle Road at 5pm yesterday, Saturday, March 8.

One of the trucks left the roadway and rolled several times into a paddock.

The second truck tipped on its side in an attempt to avoid the first truck. The trucks did not collide with each other.

Out of the 32 people involved, only 13 were taken to hospitals in Lismore, Tweed, Ballina and Byron.

None of the injuries are life threatening.

The severity of the incident reported today, Sunday, March 9, differs from initial reports.

About 22 Australian Defence Force personnel were injured after two trucks collided on Tregeagle Road today, Saturday, March 8.

Emergency services were called to Tregeagle just after 5pm. There were 19 vehicles assisting at the scene.

Paramedics helped the injured who were taken to Lismore Base Hospital.

Officers from the Crash Investigation Unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Premier Chris Minns said the ADF came to the Northern Rivers to help keep the community safe.

“NSW emergency services are currently responding on the scene and we will provide all support necessary,” Mr Minns said.

Tregeagle Road is currently closed, and members of the public are urged to avoid the area.
