VIDEO: Medical team winched onto cruise ship off the east coast

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called to help a man in his 80s who was on a cruise ship 1oo nautical miles off the coast of Ballina.

Helicopter medical team members were winched onto the cruise ship just after 4pm, yesterday, Saturday, December 31.

The man was having a medical event that needed urgent hospital treatment.

Due to the distance off shore a Challenger aircraft from Essendon in Melbourne was dispatched by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority to provide top cover.

The man was winched off the ship into the helicopter and airlifted to Lismore Hospital in a stable condition.

The video footage was taken by Rescue 440 AMSA Search and Rescue Challenger Aircraft flying above the rescue helicopter.
