Where can I get tested for covid? Here’s a list of where to go and where not to go

With the severe shortage of rapid antigen tests and many covid testing clinics closed such as the Casino drive-through clinic at Queen Elizabeth Park, there are limited options for people wanting a covid test.

Most clinics we contacted only accepted people who were showing covid symptoms.

The advice for those not showing symptoms was to use a RAT which are hard to find.

Casino

Casino Respiratory Clinic in 107 Barker Street requires an appointment for testing and only if you have symptoms including fever and acute respiratory illness or have a sore throat, cough, shortness of breath or loss of smell or loss of taste. The next available appointment is at 3pm today, January 12.

Phone 1800 856 325 or go to HotDocs to book online.

Bulgarr Ngaru Medical Centre at 153 Canterbury St has vaccines only and they are not vaccinating children at present. They do not do covid testing.

Maria Clinic at 143 Canterbury St does not do covid testing. They are vaccinating children with appointments available from tomorrow, January 13. For Pfizer vaccination there is a three week wait, for AstraZeneca it is a 12-day wait for an appointment. There is an eight day wait for the Moderna vaccine.

Kyogle

Kyogle McKid Medical Centre is running a testing clinic in conjunction with Kyogle Hospital between 1pm and 3pm Monday to Friday, closed on public holidays. Go to the pop-up tent out the front of the clinic. If you have covid symptoms, do not enter the clinic.

Evans Head

Evans Head Medical Centre in School Lane is not doing covid testing. They advised people to go to Ballina or Lismore to be tested. The clinic is doing vaccinations including for children aged 5-11 years.

Bonalbo

Bonalbo Mulitpurpose Centre on Hospital Rd can only test for covid if you are displaying symptoms. They only have one duty nurse so cannot deal with large volumes of people. The NSW Health covid testing clinic comes out occasionally but staff don’t know until the last minute, a staff member said.

Lismore

The fever clinic for Lismore Base Hospital in Uralba Street does covid testing. Free covid testing is available and anyone with mild to moderate respiratory symptoms should attend the clinic for testing. Call 6624 0200.

Ballina

The Ballina Respiratory Clinic at Tamar Village, 92 Tamar St does covid testing but only for patients who have symptoms of fever or acute respiratory illness. The respiratory clinic also does vaccinations.

The NSW Health website showing where to get tested still lists many drive through clinics that are closed.
