Where to get sandbags as weather set to worsen

Be prepared. The weather is predicted to get worse overnight.

Residents in some areas of South and North Lismore have been told to evacuate by 9am tomorrow, Monday, October 24. Check the Lismore SES Facebook page for details.

The Bureau of Meteorology reports a low pressure system is forecast to meander off Queensland’s southeast coast before moving southwards later tonight. A trough on the southern flank of the low has recently moved onshore and is expected to remain slow-moving tonight. On Monday, the low and associated trough is expected to become more mobile and shift southward, clearing rain areas from the north.

Heavy rainfall which could lead to flash flooding nay impact parts of the Northern Rivers according to BOM.

A Flood Watch is current for the Richmond and  Clarence rivers. A major flood warning has been issued for Wilsons River.

Local SES units are providing sandbags. Here’s where to get them.

Woodburn

A sandbag station has been set up at the Woodburn SES. If unattended, sandbags (either filled or unfilled) will be available anytime after 10am.

Please help yourself, shovels and sand will be available.

Coraki

There is a self-service sandbag station set up at the old SES shed on corner of Richmond Tce and Adams St. Sandbags and a small shovel are in the silver tarp.

Broadwater

Sand and sandbags are available at Broadwater SES unit. Sandbags are at the top floor entry. Sand is at boat ramp access.

Kyogle

Kyogle SES HQ – 6 Ettrick St (please do not block access for emergency service vehicles and members entering or leaving HQ)

Wiangaree

In front of Wiangaree shop on the Summerland Way.

Geneva
