Susanna Freymark

Nominations for council elections officially opened today, Monday, August 5.

Some people have already registered for the elections on September 14.

Here are the candidates registered so far for Richmond Valley Council.

There are 128 councils in NSW each with between 5–15 councillors serving on council.

The state’s councils manage $151 billion in infrastructure such pools, libraries and roads and every year spend $15 billion delivering local services.

If elected, councillors receive training and guidance from the Office of Local Government.

Currently, 39% of councillors are women, 10.1% are linguistically diverse, 3.9% are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and 2.2% identify as having a disability.

Candidate nominations close at midday on Wednesday, August 14.

Kyogle Council has only two candidates listed today – Ian Murrell for C Ward and Kieran Somerville for A Ward.

IndyNR.com has spoken to many people who will be running. We will not be naming them until they are officially registered.

Many potential candidates did not want to reveal their intentions too soon.

Registered candidates are listed here on the NSW Electoral Commission site here.

IndyNR.com will be interviewing mayoral candidates for Richmond Valley and will be asking all candidates in both councils questions. If you have a question you think we should ask email it to indynr.com@gmail.com
