Wiggin' it as hairlarious film shoot takes over town centre

There were a lot of bad wigs in Kyogle over the weekend.

Taxi Productions was shooting a new Supercheap Auto commercial in the CBD and the extras were dressed in 70s gear with 70s hair – hence the wigs.

TV personality Grant Denyer was dressed as a policeman wearing a floppy wig and a big smile.

He was happy to pose with the extras. Most of them were from Kyogle and apart from being a bit hot in their skivvies and polyester dresses, they were loving it.

For three days, race cars were skidding around corners and revving up the main street, smoke coming from the exhausts as locals watched the filming.

It is the second time Supercheap Auto has filmed a commercial in the Kyogle LGA .

There were 25 cameras, and more than 100 people were part of the crew.

Grant wasn’t the only celebrity, racing driver Craig Lowndes featured in the commercial although when IndyNR.com asked for a photo, he was in hair and make-up.

Dave’s Bakehouse even got a 70s makeover with the signage changed out front.

There were cameos in the commercial from many people. Like the Mighty Carmods – Youtubers who have 4million followers. And a local mayor.

Locals Mallee Carter and Bayden Langley were up at 5.30am for filming on Sunday, May 25.

Thomas Randall and Molly Taylor from Melbourne were two of the main stunt drivers. Molly is rally champion in real life.

“What do you think of Kyogle?’ we asked Thomas who was wearing a three-tone brown tie and yes, a wig.

“I’ve only been here an hour,” he said. “We’ve just stepped out.”

The crew has filled every hotel and pub room in Kyogle and some even had to go to Lismore and Casino for accommodation.

Director Reece Moger said his family has owned a farm out Bonalbo way for 25 years. It’s what made him want to shoot in Kyogle

The welcoming attitude of Kyogle Council has made filming much easier, he said.

At one point during filming a drone crashed into powerlines. It was quickly fixed.

The editing of the commercial will take a couple of months and then it will be posted on YouTube.

There will be a longer six-minute version where we can all watch and try and pick the locals – in their wigs and get-up.
