In the early hours of the morning today, Friday, February 13, Kyogle SES and Casino VRA Rescue Squad were called to a flood rescue.
At about 4am, emergency crews were rescuing a woman whose car was swept away in floodwaters at Collins Creek.
When the woman’s car was swept away she managed to get out of the car and cling to trees in the middle of the creek.
The SES crew used their boat to get to her. She was treated for exposure and shock.
SES said this incident is a reminder to the community that floodwater is unpredictable, fast-moving, and far more powerful than it appears. It only takes a small amount of moving water to carry away a car.
Heavy rainfall is expected this weekend so be prepared.
