Robert Johnston was rarely without three or four of his working dogs by his side. They watched his every move, waiting for his command.

He did demonstrations at the Kyogle Show and sold his trained pups for thousands, often to overseas buyers.

Sadly today, Thursday, August 18, the NSW Working Stock Dog Association announced Robert’s death in a farming accident at his property in Tatham yesterday.

Robert was a long-time member of the association.

He was at most cattle dog trials and was a highly successful competitor, winning numerous Dog of the Year Awards, three successive Australian Dog of the Year Awards and a string of championship titles, the association said.

Robert was also a generous mentor. He organised and ran the Tatham Charity Dog Trial for many years and helped out at many other trials.

Funeral details are to be advised by the family.
