Yarding numbers down, market prices firm

Numbers were down by 900 for a yarding of 1500 head at the cattle sales at NRLX today, Wednesday, August 7.

There were fewer young cattle and cows today. 

The market was firm with well bred weaner steers selling up to 20c dearer, while most restocker weaners attracted keen demand. 

Restocker weaner steers sold from 236c to a top price of 446c/kg for well bred lightweight steers. 

Light restocker steers averaged 374c and the medium weights averaged 365c/kg.  Restocker weaner heifers sold from 190c to 336c/kg. 

Restocker and background yearling steers ranged from 322c to 382c and yearling heifers sold from 268c to 315c/kg.

The yarding of export cattle consisted mainly of cows with a small penning of grown steers and heifers. 

Grown steers reached a top price of 330c and grown heifers sold to 284c/kg. 

The cow market was 10c to 15c cheaper with 2 scores selling from 188c to 238c while 3 score cows averaged 237c.  The 4 score cows sold from 240c to 270c/kg.
