There was a yarding of 1500 head at the NRLX cattle sales today, Wednesday, April 30.
The yarding of young cattle consisted mainly of weaners and vealers, along with a few pens of light yearlings. Quality was mixed with several runs of well bred weaner steers and heifers through the sale, and there was also a fair number of plain cattle offered.
The market was much stronger compared to the sale two weeks ago with restocker weaner steers selling 30c dearer and ranging from 368c to 466c with the medium weight steers averaging 431c/kg.
Well bred weaner heifers were 20c dearer, while the plainer types saw little change,with the heifers selling from 250c to 366c/kg.
Restocker and background yearling steers ranged from 335c to 466c/kg.
The yarding of export cattle consisted mainly of cows.
There were insufficient numbers of grown steers for a quote.
Grown heifers sold from 304c to 330c/kg.
The cow market was firm to slightly easier with 2 score medium weights selling from 235c to 270c, while 3 score medium weights averaged 264c and 4 score cows sold from 280c to 295c/kg.
Restocker cows sold to 285c/kg. Heavy bulls reached a top price of 310c/kg.
