There are 30 buyback homes for sale and relocation.
From charming old timber homes to those needing more work, these are homes in the flood zone that can be bought and moved somewhere else.
Parliamentary secretary for Disaster Recovery Janelle Saffin said this was the first 30 and there were more to come.
“While we need to remove these homes from the floodplain and move people out of harm’s way, we don’t want the region to lose its character along the way,” she said.
“Many of these homes are made from timbers that are rare and very valuable.
“To have them picked up, moved to a new location, spruced up and have a new family move in is a fantastic result for the whole community.”
An Expression of Interest to buy the houses was announced by the NSW Reconstruction Authority today, Sunday, December 22.
Home buyers can repurpose buyback properties and give them a new life away from flood zones under a proposal designed to retain their unique character.
The Authority has appointed local real estate agent Rob Horder and PRD Northern Rivers to market and manage the sale of the homes.
Priority will be given to people impacted by the 2022 floods and those who are seeking to relocate a home within the Northern Rivers.
All houses have been assessed so that buyers can understand what work will need to be completed as part of the home’s relocation and renovation.
The EOI opens today, December 23 and closes on February 14.
The homes will be displayed on the PRD Northern Rivers website.
