BOOK: Buy a ticket for the heritage train coming to Kyogle’s pumpkin festival

Susanna Freymark

A visiting heritage train will make Kyogle’s giant pumpkin festival extra special this January.

A 620 Class two-car diesel will be taking passengers from Casino to Kyogle as well as offering rides to Glenapp in Queensland.

The 1961 train is run by the Rail Motor Society volunteer group.

Ninety passengers fit on the train and tickets are expected to sell out quickly once they are on sale in two days’ time.

Operations manager Bruce Agland and the group are running 100 trains in Coffs Harbour in early January and when the pumpkin festival committee invited them to Kyogle, they jumped at the chance.

“It’s a bit of nostalgia for old style travel,” Bruce said about the popularity of heritage trains.
