The Casino Ramblers walking group will do its first walk this Tuesday, August 18.
The free community walking group is on every Tuesday at 9.30am starting at Crawford Square Park, South Casino.
The walk is aimed at people over 60 and is supported by Northern NSW Local Health District’s Health Promotion Team and Richmond Valley Council.
The group is part of the Heart Foundation Walking program.
Healthy Ageing promotion officer Leanne White said walking offers physical, mental and social benefits for older adults.
“Walking is a gentle and accessible form of exercise that can improve physical health, support cognitive function and boost mental wellbeing,” Ms White said.
“It’s also a wonderful opportunity to meet new people, build social connections and spend time outdoors. Staying socially connected is just as important for our health and wellbeing as staying physically active.”
The Casino Ramblers group welcomes people of all walking abilities to enjoy regular physical activity alongside others in their community.
Community members interested in becoming volunteer walk leaders are also encouraged to get involved and help support the growth of the group.
To join the Casino Ramblers walking group, become a volunteer walk leader, or find out more, email leanne.White1@health.nsw.gov.au or call 0427 058 345.
