In response to the story about the public forum about the proposed demolition of the Kyogle Youth Centre, known as The Youthie, Kyogle Council released this statement.

“Over the last half dozen years Council has worked hard to deliver our community with a modern multi-purpose recreation centre.

Council is planning to build the Rec Centre on Council land known as Memorial Park which has as its central feature the Kyogle War Memorial and also accommodates the existing Youth Centre which operates part time from a small building.

The proposed Kyogle Memorial Recreation Centre will provide flexible spaces including a contemporary sports and youth activities hall complemented by activity rooms, an office, and modern amenities including a parents’ room.

It will also appropriately honour those who gave their all for our liberty, and we continue to work with and be guided by our friends from the Kyogle RSL sub-Branch.

The Rec Centre’s flexible activity rooms, which include a kitchenette, can be used as two smaller, or one larger meeting room.

These rooms can be adapted to host cultural programs, music, youth activities, and events for all ages.

We greatly value our relationship with Kyogle Together, who have been running the ‘Youthie’, but in recent years have also been using the building for other purposes, as well as youth activities.

We are working with Kyogle Together to assist them to find suitable spaces to continue providing those services.

This new centre provides greater opportunity for countless activities young people love.

The building will provide a modern accessible space for our community, our youth and their families, with the added benefit of a parents’ room.

We are currently discussing opportunities with our friends at Kyogle Together, and look forward to what services they may be able to deliver to our community for years to come, from this new modern space.”
