Photographer Richard Malawkin captured these striking images of birds in flight.
“This time the black falcon decided to swoop me a few times,” he said.
“When the wings are tucked in and it’s looking straight at you, it’s time to press the shutter button. Keeping it in the frame and in focus is still tricky.
“I’m scared of magpies when they swoop because I know they’ll hit you. I don’t think these raptors will make contact, well, I hope not, those talons are sharp.”
Richard takes his photos at a farm north of Kyogle with permission from the owner.
From one location I can see white-bellied sea eagles, black shouldered kites, nankeen kestrels, black kites, black falcons, little eagle dark morph, wedge-tailed eagle, and not as often brown falcons and spotted harrier, Richard said.
This morning he was out on the property taking pictures again.
“This time the little eagle was coming straight for me. I think the birds are talking to each other.”
