Correction: Originally IndyNR.com published that the train derailed but it did not, there was simply some confusion and the train blocked the Hotham Street crossing until this was sorted out.

Emergency services rushed to Hotham Street, Casino after reports of a train derailment at 7:20pm today, Tuesday, March 25.

When emergency crews arrived, the rail crossing was blocked by a stationary freight train.

The exact nature of the incident—whether it involved a vehicle collision, derailment or other issue—was initially unknown.

It was later determined that the XPT passenger train was at Casino Train Station when the approaching freight train was ordered to make an emergency stop to prevent a potential collision.

Police said the train took the wrong track and was stopped and blocking the crossing for some time but it is now back in motion.

The incident triggered an emergency response from multiple agencies including Casino VRA Rescue NSW.

Fortunately, there were no injuries or further incidents.
