Funding will provide homes for 500 paramedics over next four years

More than 500 paramedics will be housed in the Northern Rivers over the next four years.

To house these extra workers, 120 dwellings will be needed in the region including some at Kyogle.

The Key Health Worker Accommodation program aims to attract more paramedics to the bush and is funded by the State Government.

The funding will secure 120 dwellings and will include the building of new accommodation, refurbishment of existing living quarters and the purchase of suitable properties such as residential units.

Minister for the North Coast and State MP Janelle Saffin said people in Kyogle and surrounding villages had a great need for paramedic care simply because they live in rural communities and some isolated locations.

“I welcome this targeted funding which is aimed at attracting and retaining more paramedics to Kyogle in the future, noting that planning for what type of housing is already underway,” Ms Saffin said.

The accommodation for Kyogle and other places in the Northern Rivers is part of the State Government’s $10 million funding over four years.

More locations selected on greatest need are being finalised and will be announced soon.
