Councillors will hold elections for the position of mayor and deputy mayor at the next Kyogle Council meeting on Monday, September 14.
The election is not done by the community through a popular vote which is what happens in Richmond Valley Council.
Instead, councillors vote – at the meeting, they will decide whether the vote will be done by a show of hands or a secret ballot.
Danielle Mulholland is currently mayor and is seeking another term. There may be other councillors who vie for the position but none have made their intentions public.
Councillor John Burley is currently deputy mayor.
Councillor Olivia Taylor has said she is putting her hand up for the deputy mayor position. There may be other candidates on the day.
When only one councillor is nominated, that councillor is elected mayor or deputy mayor.
When there is more than one councillor nominated for the position the councillors will vote.
The elected mayor and deputy mayor hold their positions for two years.
