The Evans Head Living Museum is looking for the old Evans Head Train.
Museum members believe the train could be in a garage or shed in Casino.
The ‘old Evans Head train’ refers to the iconic Evans Head Scenic Railway, a miniature railway that operated along the town’s beachfront from 1946 until the late 1960s.
Train rides opened in 1946 and the driver was Clarrie Kirkland.
The train was a massive tourist drawcard throughout the 1950s and 1960s.
It ran for about 450 metres along the sandhills behind the Evans Head camping reserve (now part of Reflections Holiday Parks) to the surf club.
By 1968, the tracks had deteriorated.
In 1969, the train was converted to run on tractor wheels where it continued to roam the streets of Evans Head before eventually being retired.
