Police charge man after car chase through Wiangaree, Geneva and Afterlee

A man has been charged with multiple break and enter offences after he allegedly rammed a police car earlier this month.

At 8.10am on Wednesday, April 16, police spotted a Toyota Landcruiser they believed was stolen driving on Summerland Way, Wiangaree.

When police approached, the driver drove at and hit a police car before leaving the scene in the Toyota.

Police directed the driver to stop and when he failed to do so, police chased the Toyota through Wiangaree, Geneva and Afterlee before the stolen Landcruiser crashed through a fence and into a tree on Murray Scrub Road, Toonumbar.

The driver – a 32 year old man – tried to leave the scene but was arrested by police.

During the arrest police found items believed to have been stolen and a small amount of ammunition.

The man was taken to Casino Police Station where he was charged with a list of offences including theft, driving a car during disqualification period and possessing ammunition without a licence/permit/authority.

On Thursday, April 17, at 11am, police searched a home on Old Tenterfield Road, Kippenduff where they said they seized items including a revolver barrel, cannabis, vehicle keys, mobile phones, SIM cards, firearm parts, ammunition, and a Mazda BT50 believed to have been stolen.

The man was refused bail and appeared before Lismore Local Court on Thursday, April 17. He is back in court on Monday, May 5.
