Terri Brown says she is “bursting with courage.”
Every Saturday, she is at the Casino Lions Farmers Market with her homemade products of natural skin care, soaps, ointments, moisturisers and her food products of kimchi, jams and sauerkraut.
Everything is chemical-free and everything is made by Terri.
She knows exactly what is in each product and has grown it herself at her property in Yorklea.
So, where did Terri get this courage she talks about?
“I’m the daughter of a mother who raised seven daughters,” Terri said.
“She was a highly strong, strong, wilful and independent woman.”
It is Terri’s independence that allows her to do what she does, Terri said.
“To travel where others fear to tread.”
Being aware of what you eat and the products you use on your body is a way to take charge of your life, Terri said.
For 30 years, Terri has been making and refining her Chuoz Earth products.
“I mainly used to gift them to my friends, then they said – you must sell these.”
So, she does, every Saturday at the market at Crawford Square Park at 8am–11am.
“I back all my products,” Terri said.
She has a cream for muscular pain, fungal toe cream for your feet and rosemary spritz to refresh your face – and Terri knows everything about what goes into her creams.
It is a part of her lifestyle and belief system.
“I grow my own food, my own meat and I live sustainably,” she said.
She is adamant we are paying a price for the chemicals in our food and body products and has dedicated her time to offering something natural, ecological and on a small scale.
When you buy at the farmers market, your money goes to people who live in our community who then spend the money back in the community.
Plus, there is the added bonus of tapping in to the knowledge of someone like Terri to learn more about what we buy.
Casino Lions Farmers market is cancelled this Saturday because farmers are still cleaning up after the storm. The market is back on Saturday on March 22.
