
Numbers were down slightly from last week with a yarding of 1250 head at the NRLX cattle sales today, Wednesday, August 19.
The yarding of young cattle was made up mainly of weaners along with several pens of yearlings. Quality was similar to last week with several pens of weaners and yearlings in good condition and extra weight, along with lines of well bred cattle.
Demand was keener again this week with restocker weaner steers and heifers selling 20c dearer with some variation in prices at times.
Restocker weaner steers sold from 422c to 576c with the medium weights averaging 513c/kg.
Restocker weaner heifers ranged from 360c to 450c with the medium weights averaging 414c/kg.
Yearling steers to background toped at 532c and the yearling heifers sold to 472c/kg.
Grown steers sold to a top at 414c to feed and the grown heifers sold to 394c/kg to process.
The cow yarding was fairly mixed with several pens of heavy well finished cows, along with the plain conditioned lines.
Plain condition 2 score cows couldn’t maintain last weeks prices to be down by 10c with light weights selling from 240c to 300c, while the 2 score medium weights saw little change ranging from 320c to 348c/kg.
Medium weight 3 score cows averaged 352c, while heavy 4 score cows sold from 362c to 390c/kg to be 10c/kg dearer.
The bull market remained strong with heavy weights reaching a top price of 407c/kg.
