100 blocked ag drains to be repaired and cleaned in $5mil reset program

Drainage work being done.

About 100 drains on agricultural properties will be repaired and cleaned out through the $5million Northern Rivers Agricultural Drainage Reset Program.

The NSW Reconstruction Authority announced the reset program today, Thursday, July 4.

Vegetation build-up presents a serious problem with large drains unable to channel water away from the land, the Authority said.

The program is being done by the Reconstruction Authority in partnership with Soil Conservation Service and in cooperation with local councils.

Feedback from the community and the Northern Rivers Community Leaders Forum, established 12 months ago, helped to inform the program.

The Authority doorknocked more than 4880 homes across seven LGAs between August 2023–January 2024.

Today’s announcement did not include the location of the drains included in the program.

IndyNR.com will be pursuing this information from the Authority.
