Bishop Gregory Homeming and Kevin Hogan MP with guests at the new Mercy Centre at St Mary’s Catholic College in Casino.

A grand new building – the Mercy Centre was opened at St Mary’s Catholic College, Casino, today, Tuesday, April 2.

The project included a complete refurbishment of the previous block which housed general learning classrooms and four science laboratories.

The new building includes general learning classrooms, four science labs, open learning spaces, study pods, a canteen, gymnasium and auditorium style seating called the Learning Commons.

The total project costs were more than $8million with a Federal Government contribution of $3.6million.

Federal MP Kevin Hogan was at the official opening.

“The existing science laboratories were built in the 1960s and were in urgent need of upgrades so it is fantastic to see the Mercy Centre open with new labs, preparation rooms, general learning and storage,” Mr Hogan said.

The official blessing was done by Bishop Gregory Homeming.
