Years before Angus Joyce and his family moved to Kyogle, Angus saw the stage at the amphitheatre stage in the park and said – “Mum, one day I want to play on that stage.”
Three years ago, the Joyces moved from Queensland to join extended family in Kyogle – and tomorrow, Saturday, July 27, 14 year old Angus will perform at the Kyogle Bazaar on the stage of his dreams.
Angus will play trumpet, keyboard, and a looping pedal for his funk-inspired sound.
He’ll definitely be playing his new single The Beat.
“I want to share the music with people and make them feel happy,” Angus said.
His new single was recorded with musicians from the Northern Rivers Conservatorium and has been played on ABC North Coast. The Beat has been entered into the Triple J Unearthed High Competition.
“This is my second single, I wrote it when I was 12,” Angus said.
“This song is about that feeling you get when you love a song and you walk through the house tapping your foot to The Beat.”
Sally Joyce said her son always has a notebook in his hand to capture lyrics.
“He was writing songs since he was four,” she said.
“I bought a piano for myself and he’d push me off to get on it himself.”
Sally said they never pushed Angus to be musical.
“We’d let it happen through play. We’ve never pushed it.
“We give him time to create and play – and magic happens.”
Come and see the magic that is Angus Joyce at the Kyogle Bazaar on the Amphitheatre Stage on Saturday, July 27 at 11am–noon.
