Animal shelter closed because of parvo spread

Richmond Valley Council has provided this guide about parvo in dogs.

An outbreak of canine parvovirus in Casino has meant some sick dogs have stayed at the Richmond Valley Council’s pound facility.

To protect current impounded animals and any others, the council has locked down the facility until further notice.

Council staff said it means that they cannot take in any roaming dogs until they are sure the Casino facility is clear and no longer a risk.

Alternative drop-off animal shelters are in Kyogle, Lismore and Ballina.

Parvo is an easily preventable disease through vaccination.

The council reminds all companion animal owners to vaccinate their dogs.

For any enquiries about the animal shelter, contact the council rangers on 6660 0300 during business hours.
