Bring back the banner – Where has the Come for a day, Stay for a Lifetime banner gone?

For years, the banner hung over Summerland Way in Kyogle.

At this month’s Kyogle Council meeting on May 11, councillor Brett McNamara asked about the Come for a day, Stay for the Lifetime banner that hung across the main street for many years.

It was a phrase coined by Kyogle’s tourism officer Malcolm Wallis who died in 2018.

The council said the banner had been organised by the Kyogle Chamber of Commerce with other community organisations including Tidy Towns.

Mr McNamara asked if the banner could be found and go to the Kyogle Museum. It wasn’t clear if the banner would be replaced after the main street upgrade by the council.

Mr McNamara said the banner inspired the community, was sponsored by community, and its simple welcoming message resonated.

Over time, the wear and tear of weather elements had taken its toll, he said.

The banner was eventually taken down.

Kyogle Museum and other community groups are interested to know what locals think – Should we bring back the banner?

Should it say Come for a Day, Stay for a Lifetime?
