Car’s hot exhaust ignites grass, fire destroys car

Mallanganee Rural Fire Brigade crew rushed to a car on fire at the Mallanganee Campdraft grounds at 10.45pm on Saturday, June 17.

The crew found a car alight just inside the gate to the grounds.

The woman, from Brisbane, was driving the car and when she saw the gate was shut, she reversed and got stuck.

She got out of the car and went for help. By the time she returned, the car was on fire.

An RFS member said that it would have been caused by a hot exhaust in the long grass.

There have been numerous grass fires in the past month as the frosty conditions have dried out the grass.

Mummulgum RFS crew attended and helped the Mallanganee unit.
