Community group runs tip shop for the last day before council takes over

You never know what you’ll find at the tip shop.

For the final time, Kyogle Together is running the Kyogle tip shop tomorrow, Saturday, April 13.

Kyogle Together has been operating the facility since November 2019 under the name KRIC – Kyogle Resources Innovation Collective.

“During this time, we have saved tonnes and tonnes of ‘waste’ from going into landfill,” the KRIC team said.

“The program contributed significantly to flood recovery and helped keep waste out of landfill.”

For the past four and a half years, volunteers have run the tip shop and now Kyogle Council is taking over.

In the council’s newsletter the explanation was:

“Recent changes to council’s statutory waste management obligations and other operational considerations, caused council to review the tip shop’s operations.

“In particular, council had to look at whether the current operating model would allow it to meet its waste management objectives. After careful consideration, it was decided the tip shop would be best managed by Council in future.”

KRIC thanked everyone who donated items.

“You realised your unwanted items could be used, repurposed, upcycled and considered treasure by other people in the community and you donated rather than throw it away. Please don’t stop doing that.”

The shop will be open until noon tomorrow, and everything must go.

Head to the tip shop, say g’day to the KRIC volunteers and grab a bargain.

The council’s waste management team will manage the tipshop with a focus on the reuse of construction and building materials, secondhand furniture in good condition and gardening tools and equipment.

Donations of these items should only be dropped off during tip shop opening hours –Thursday–Sunday, 9am–noon.

Anyone donating items to the tip shop must go over the weighbridge on entering the Kyogle Waste Facility to comply with new rules imposed by the NSW Environmental Protection Agency.
