Confusion cleared on buying op-shop for $1

The council could buy this former op-shop for $1.

There was some confusion at the Kyogle Council meeting this month about which building was being offered by the Uniting Church – was it 5 or 7 Peacock St?

It has been confirmed as the former Caroona Bonalbo Op-shop timber house at 5 Peacock St, Bonalbo.

It is not the old fire shed next to the op-shop that was used for storage.

The Uniting Church is prepared to sell the former op-shop to the council for $1 as long as the building is used for community purposes.

The Bonalbo CWA has committed to maintaining and cleaning the building and will manage bookings and pay all utilities (water, sewer, electricity, phone).

Council manager Graham Kennett said council would need to do a building inspection and if that was satisfactory, the building would be classified for community purposes.

Mr Kennett said they were organising access to the property for the building inspection and would report back to council once it was done.
