The cow market was 20c cheaper at the NRLX sales today, Wednesday, February 21.

The driving force is a lot of cattle are getting yarded across NSW and Queensland, agent Mark McCormack said.

More than 20,000 stock were listed on AuctionsPlus.

“Queensland has had a good wet season,” Mr McCormack said.

“NSW is very patchy. Some areas have had rain and some areas haven’t. There’s been hot, dry weather out west.

“Northern Rivers is having a very good season with good quality cattle coming in.

“There are not a lot of weaner buyers in our area.”

Mr McCormack said, “We’re coming into the time of year when we yard a lot of cattle.”

MLA report

The sell-off season is starting to take off with numbers similar to last week.

1500 head were at the NRLX sale today, with young cattle and cows in good numbers. The yarding of young cattle consisted of several runs of well-bred vealers and weaners through the sale.

The market eased again this week with most restocker young cattle selling 10c to 20c cheaper depending on breed and quality.

Restocker weaner steers sold from 250c to 436c and restocker weaner heifers ranged from 200c to 310c/kg.

Yearling steers to feed and restock sold from 250c to 348c and yearling heifers ranged from 186 c to 290c/kg.

There were several pens of heavy grown steers that sold 10c cheaper, ranging from 290c to 300c and grown heifers experienced similar losses to top at 280c/kg.

There was another good line-up of cows, however prices could not maintain last week’s rate with medium and heavy weights selling 10c cheaper.

The 2 score cows sold from 188c to 225c and 3 score medium weights averaged 227c while heavy 4 scores sold from 230c to 246c/kg. Top price for heavy bulls was 254c/kg.

This cattle report was compiled by MLA’s Doug Robson with comments by Casino Auctioneers Association president Mark McCormack from Casino.
